My Professional Background

My Professional Background

Here are some highlights of my professional experience:

Psychotherapist in private practice since 1989. My primary orientation features an integration of Jungian and psycho-dynamic theory and technique, but I also utilize cognitive/behavioral problem-solving methods, as well as emotionally focused relational work based on more recent advances in neurobiology and attachment theory. I have a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles. (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #MFC24500).

Clinical supervisor of therapist interns. I have provided private-practice supervision for numerous LMFT interns who have gone on to become successful licensed professionals in their own right.

Gay Soul Workshop Facilitator. During the past three decades, I have lead hundreds of in-depth workshops, talks, retreats, discussion groups, consciousness-raising events, and spiritual gatherings for gay men and lesbians in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I continue to facilitate community discussions on matters of homosexual individuation at monthly Gay-Centered Inner Work Club meetings in West Hollywood.

Founding Member, Institute for Uranian Psychoanalysis, 2005-2019. I helped establish the first analytical organization dedicated to fostering homosexual psychological self-realization, including understanding the value of its essential qualities for people of all different sexual orientations. In 2011, the Institute launched both pre-Training and Advanced Training Programs, for which I was a core group facilitator.

Director, Mental Health Program, Northeast Valley Health Corporation, Los Angeles, California, 1991-2001. For over a decade, I was engaged in providing compassionate mental health care for public high school students. This involved individual, group and family counseling, as well as administrative duties. I also supervised up to eight MFT and Psychologist trainees and interns at a time, provided regular training to interns and staff on such topics as child abuse, L.G.B.T. identity, and diversity challenges.

Children’s Social Worker, Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services, 1987-1991. I provided assessment, coordination of services, and counseling for children at risk for abuse.
